HARCH25 (1).jpg

Alyx Harch is a multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago, IL. She received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a concentration in painting and fiber material studies.

Alyx’s work is first and foremost gestural. Drawings, garments, handmade paper objects, and paper pulp images invoke nontraditional painting to edit and refine an idiosyncratic visual language. Lines become hieroglyphs which then somersault into paintings. Pigment clings to cotton paper beside a collaged garment: Alyx works to give color a body.

This year she launched her own line of bags and garments under the name HARCH, was commissioned a mural by Mott St. in Chicago, and attended a papermaking residency at Hook Pottery Paper in LaPorte, IN. Alyx recently exhibited in LTD WEAR 3 at LVL3 Gallery (Chicago), Pocket Object (traveled to Kansas City, Chicago, and Philadelphia), and WINDOW SHOPPING, her first solo show at TUSK (Chicago). WINDOW SHOPPING is a playful conceptualization of a pop-up shop and art installation. Harch intends to open a dialogue between fine art and fashion, painting and shopping, window displays, and an examination of the “window” in an art historical context.

Alyx will exhibit WINDOW SHOPPING at MOCAD as a part of their Pop Up Program in March 2019 and this coming summer she will work as a Teacher’s Assistant for papermaking courses at Oxbow School of Art and Artists' Residency.
